Best results: Toyota introduced its online service history (MyToyota) in the UK around 2012, so records are most complete for Toyota vehicles from 2012 onwards that have been serviced by a franchised Toyota dealer. Earlier services may only be in the paper book.
How Toyota records service history
Toyota records servicing in its online service history (MyToyota), which replaced the stamped paper service book for UK cars from around 2012. Each time a franchised Toyota dealer services the car, the date, mileage and work done are written to the manufacturer's central record for that vehicle rather than a book kept in the glovebox.
Owners can register free on the MyToyota portal or app with the VIN and see the service history without a dealer visit.
Typical service interval: every 12 months or 10,000 miles across the range, including hybrids, which also get a hybrid health check. A record that skips an interval is worth asking about.
- Only Toyota dealers update the record, so independent servicing does not appear.
- Toyota GB launched the MyToyota portal in December 2012 with the full service history online. The paper Service and Warranty booklet is still issued and dealers still stamp it on request, so a Toyota can have both a book and a digital record.
What a Toyota service history check shows
The check asks Toyota's dealer network for the digital records held against the registration and returns every entry it holds:
- The date of each service or repair and the mileage at the time
- The type of service (scheduled service, oil service, inspection, repair) and the work carried out
- The dealer or workshop that logged it
- The manufacturer's own PDF where Toyota supplies one

- Reading it: mileages rise steadily and the gaps are about a year apart, which matches an annual schedule. The 2022 entry is a repair, not a service, so the interval between the third and fourth services is a little over two years — worth asking about.
- Where the manufacturer supplies its own PDF, it is attached to your email alongside this table. Reports stay available online for six months.
- A report with no records looks like this table with no rows and a clear statement that the manufacturer holds no digital entries; see what that means.
Reading a Toyota service record
- Mileages should rise steadily. A reading lower than the one before points to a clocking or a data-entry error; compare with the MOT mileages on a free MOT check.
- Gaps between entries. Toyota's schedule is every 12 months or 10,000 miles across the range, including hybrids, which also get a hybrid health check; a longer gap usually means an independent garage did the work, which only appears if that garage uploaded it. Ask for invoices.
- Nothing before 2012. Earlier services may sit in a paper book or an older system that was never transferred.
- No records at all. Not the same as no service history — but treat a claimed "full Toyota main-dealer history" with no digital entries as a red flag and ask the seller to explain it.
