MG Service History Check - £4.99
Check an MG's service history online by registration for £4.99. The check pulls the digital service records MG's Digital Service Records holds for the car - every logged service with its date, mileage, dealer and work done - usually within 10 minutes, and emails you the result with the manufacturer's PDF.
Before you pay we confirm the manufacturer is one we can retrieve records for. Charged per search: the fee applies whether or not records are found.
Best results: digital service records are most complete for vehicles from 2012 onwards that have been serviced by a franchised dealer.
How MG records service history
MG records servicing in its Digital Service Records. Each time a franchised MG dealer services the car, the date, mileage and work done are written to the manufacturer's central record for that vehicle rather than a book kept in the glovebox.
MG has no owner-facing portal for the record: only a franchised MG dealer can look it up or print it, which is why a registration-based check is the practical way to see it.
Typical service interval: typically every 12 months or 10,000 miles (15,000 miles on some models). A record that skips an interval is worth asking about.
- MG Motor UK's digital records cover the modern SAIC-era range (2011 onwards); earlier MG Rover cars are not on the system.
What an MG service history check shows
The check asks MG's dealer network for the digital records held against the registration and returns every entry it holds:
- The date of each service or repair and the mileage at the time
- The type of service (scheduled service, oil service, inspection, repair) and the work carried out
- The dealer or workshop that logged it
- The manufacturer's own PDF where MG supplies one
You do not need to own the car, know the VIN or ask the seller: the registration is enough. The result stays available online for six months and is emailed to you.
What a MG service history report looks like
An illustrative example: every entry the manufacturer's dealer network holds is listed with its date, mileage, the type of service, the work carried out and the dealer that logged it. The vehicle and entries below are invented to show the layout; a real report contains only what MG's system returns for the registration you enter.
Example vehicle: 2018 five-door hatchback, 1.5 petrol, 47,210 miles at the last MOT. Five records found.
| Date | Mileage | Service | Work done | Where |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 14 Mar 2019 | 11,860 | Scheduled service (1st) | Engine oil and filter, pollen filter, inspection service; software update applied | Franchised dealer, Leeds |
| 22 Feb 2020 | 23,405 | Scheduled service (2nd) | Engine oil and filter, brake fluid change, inspection service | Franchised dealer, Leeds |
| 09 Mar 2021 | 31,980 | Scheduled service (3rd) | Engine oil and filter, air filter, spark plugs, inspection service; recall campaign completed | Franchised dealer, Wakefield |
| 18 Jul 2022 | 41,120 | Repair | Front brake pads and discs replaced; wheel alignment | Franchised dealer, Wakefield |
| 30 Mar 2023 | 44,760 | Scheduled service (4th) | Engine oil and filter, brake fluid change, inspection service | Franchised dealer, Wakefield |
Reading it: mileages rise steadily and the gaps are about a year apart, which matches an annual schedule. The 2022 entry is a repair, not a service, so the interval between the third and fourth services is a little over two years - worth asking about.
Where the manufacturer supplies its own PDF, it is attached to your email alongside this table. Reports stay available online for six months.
A report with no records looks like this table with no rows and a clear statement that the manufacturer holds no digital entries; see what that means.
Reading an MG service record
- Mileages should rise steadily. A reading lower than the one before points to a clocking or a data-entry error; compare with the MOT mileages on a free MOT check.
- Gaps between entries. MG's schedule is typically every 12 months or 10,000 miles (15,000 miles on some models); a longer gap usually means an independent garage did the work, which only appears if that garage uploaded it. Ask for invoices.
- Nothing before 2012. Earlier services may sit in a paper book or an older system that was never transferred.
- No records at all. Not the same as no service history - but treat a claimed "full MG main-dealer history" with no digital entries as a red flag and ask the seller to explain it.

MG service history - questions answered
How can I find the service history for an MG?
The quickest way without owning the car is a digital service history check by registration: enter the plate on DealerPricing, pay £4.99, and the records MG's dealer network holds are retrieved and emailed to you, usually within 10 minutes. If you own the car, mG has no owner-facing portal for the record: only a franchised MG dealer can look it up or print it, which is why a registration-based check is the practical way to see it.
Does MG have a digital service record?
Yes. MG records servicing in its Digital Service Records. Cars from that point on that have been serviced by a franchised MG dealer have the most complete digital records; earlier or independent-garage services appear only if they were transferred or uploaded.
Can I check MG service history with just the registration?
Yes. DealerPricing looks the vehicle up from the registration alone: you do not need the VIN, the log book or the seller's permission, so you can check an MG before viewing it or paying a deposit.
How much does an MG service history check cost?
£4.99 for a one-off check with no subscription. DealerPricing trade subscribers have service history checks included on their dashboard. The fee is per search and applies whether or not records are found.
Why might an MG show no digital service records?
Because the car was serviced by independent garages that did not upload to MG's system, because its services were only stamped in a paper book, or because the dealer never logged them. It is not proof the car was never serviced - ask the seller for invoices and the stamped book, and match them to the MOT mileages.
Is an MG digital service record proof of full service history?
It is the strongest evidence available, because dealer entries in MG's system cannot be forged the way a stamp can. Full service history also requires that the intervals were kept (typically every 12 months or 10,000 miles (15,000 miles on some models) for MG), so check the dates and mileages between entries, not just that entries exist.
Can I check MG service history for free?
Only as the registered keeper. MG has no owner-facing portal for the record: only a franchised MG dealer can look it up or print it, which is why a registration-based check is the practical way to see it. A buyer has no free route to MG's record, which is what the £4.99 check by registration is for. MOT history, with every test mileage, is free and is the best free cross-check on a service claim.
Will independent garage servicing show on an MG record?
Usually not. Only MG's franchised network writes to the record, so a service by an independent garage appears only on that garage's invoice. A gap in the digital record on a car serviced independently is normal; ask for the invoices and match their mileages to the MOT record.
How often should an MG be serviced?
MG's schedule is typically every 12 months or 10,000 miles (15,000 miles on some models). Use it to read the record: entries further apart than that mean a service was missed, done late, or done by a garage that did not upload it.
