Free vehicle check - questions answered
Is the DealerPricing vehicle check actually free?
Yes. The free vehicle check returns MOT history, current tax status, MOT expiry, DVLA-registered colour, fuel, year and CO₂ - all with no signup, no payment, and no email required.
What if I mistype my email address at checkout?
You type the address twice before paying, and the payment step shows where the report will go. The report is emailed to that address and, if you entered a different address on the card payment page, to that one as well. If it still goes astray, the site chat can send it again: give the registration, the receipt number from the card receipt and the email you paid with, and the report is re-sent to that address with the PDF attached. Reports can be re-sent up to three times a day.
What information does the free vehicle check return?
Make, model, year of manufacture, fuel type, CO₂ emissions, current tax status, current MOT expiry date, DVLA-registered colour, the full MOT history from 2005 onwards with all advisories and defects, and whether the vehicle has an outstanding manufacturer safety recall (from DVSA).
Can I check if a car has an outstanding recall for free?
Yes. The free vehicle check shows whether DVSA records an outstanding manufacturer safety recall on the vehicle, alongside its MOT and tax status. If it does, contact a franchised dealer for that make to book the free recall repair.
Does the free check include a provenance (vehicle history) check?
No. The free check covers public DVLA and DVSA data. For stolen, finance, write-off and keeper history, you need a paid vehicle history check (£3.99, or £2.50 for subscribers).
How current is the MOT and tax data?
Both are pulled live from the official UK government APIs (DVSA for MOT, DVLA for tax). Data is as current as the source registers - typically updated within hours of any change.
Why is DealerPricing offering this for free?
Because it costs us very little to run a public DVLA / DVSA lookup, and giving it away builds brand awareness with traders who go on to need the paid vehicle history checks, trade valuations and pricing software.
Can I run a free check on any UK vehicle?
Yes. Any vehicle with a UK registration, including older vehicles, classic cars, vans and motorcycles, will return data if it is registered with the DVLA.
