How Ford records service history
Ford records servicing in its Digital Service Record (DSR), which replaced the stamped paper service book for UK cars from around 2022. Each time a franchised Ford dealer services the car, the date, mileage and work done are written to the manufacturer's central record for that vehicle rather than a book kept in the glovebox.
Owners can see the DSR in the FordPass app or their online Ford account.
Typical service interval: model-dependent: commonly every 12 months or 12,500 miles, with some newer EcoBoost and EcoBlue engines on two years or 18,000 miles. A record that skips an interval is worth asking about.
- Ford says the DSR replaced the printed service booklet for new UK vehicles from 2022, later than most brands, so older Fords usually have a stamped book and the digital record may start part-way through the car's life.
- Only a Ford dealer can add entries to the DSR; independent servicing does not appear.
What a Ford service history check shows
The check asks Ford's dealer network for the digital records held against the registration and returns every entry it holds:
- The date of each service or repair and the mileage at the time
- The type of service (scheduled service, oil service, inspection, repair) and the work carried out
- The dealer or workshop that logged it
- The manufacturer's own PDF where Ford supplies one

- Reading it: mileages rise steadily and the gaps are about a year apart, which matches an annual schedule. The 2022 entry is a repair, not a service, so the interval between the third and fourth services is a little over two years — worth asking about.
- Where the manufacturer supplies its own PDF, it is attached to your email alongside this table. Reports stay available online for six months.

Reading a Ford service record
- Mileages should rise steadily. A reading lower than the one before points to a clocking or a data-entry error; compare with the MOT mileages on a free MOT check.
- Gaps between entries. Ford's schedule is model-dependent: commonly every 12 months or 12,500 miles, with some newer EcoBoost and EcoBlue engines on two years or 18,000 miles; a longer gap usually means an independent garage did the work, which only appears if that garage uploaded it. Ask for invoices.
- Nothing before 2022. Earlier services may sit in a paper book or an older system that was never transferred.
- No records at all. Not the same as no service history — but treat a claimed "full Ford main-dealer history" with no digital entries as a red flag and ask the seller to explain it.
