Smart Service History Check — £4.99

Check a Smart's service history online by registration for £4.99. The check pulls the digital service records Smart's Digital Service Booklet (DSB, shared with Mercedes-Benz) holds for the car — every logged service with its date, mileage, dealer and work done — usually within 10 minutes, and emails you the result with the manufacturer's PDF.

Most results arrive within 10 minutes; some manufacturers take up to 48 hours. Emailed to you as a PDF. No subscription needed.

Before you pay we confirm the manufacturer is one we can retrieve records for. Charged per search: the fee applies whether or not records are found.

Best results: Smart introduced its Digital Service Booklet (DSB, shared with Mercedes-Benz) in the UK around 2008, so records are most complete for Smart vehicles from 2008 onwards that have been serviced by a franchised Smart dealer. Earlier services may only be in the paper book.

How Smart records service history

Smart records servicing in its Digital Service Booklet (DSB, shared with Mercedes-Benz), which replaced the stamped paper service book for UK cars from around 2008. Each time a franchised Smart dealer services the car, the date, mileage and work done are written to the manufacturer's central record for that vehicle rather than a book kept in the glovebox.

Owners can see the DSB on the Mercedes me website (My Car → Service History).

  • smart uses the Mercedes-Benz Digital Service Booklet, rolled out across the group's cars in 2008, so the same rules apply: dealer entries are complete, and independent garages registered on Mercedes-Benz's B2B Connect portal can add theirs.

What a Smart service history check shows

The check asks Smart's dealer network for the digital records held against the registration and returns every entry it holds:

  • The date of each service or repair and the mileage at the time
  • The type of service (scheduled service, oil service, inspection, repair) and the work carried out
  • The dealer or workshop that logged it
  • The manufacturer's own PDF where Smart supplies one

You do not need to own the car, know the VIN or ask the seller: the registration is enough. The result stays available online for six months and is emailed to you.

What a Smart service history report looks like

An illustrative example: every entry the manufacturer's dealer network holds is listed with its date, mileage, the type of service, the work carried out and the dealer that logged it. The vehicle and entries below are invented to show the layout; a real report contains only what Smart's system returns for the registration you enter.

Example vehicle: 2018 five-door hatchback, 1.5 petrol, 47,210 miles at the last MOT. Five records found.

  • Reading it: mileages rise steadily and the gaps are about a year apart, which matches an annual schedule. The 2022 entry is a repair, not a service, so the interval between the third and fourth services is a little over two years — worth asking about.
  • Where the manufacturer supplies its own PDF, it is attached to your email alongside this table. Reports stay available online for six months.
  • A report with no records looks like this table with no rows and a clear statement that the manufacturer holds no digital entries; see what that means.

Reading a Smart service record

  • Mileages should rise steadily. A reading lower than the one before points to a clocking or a data-entry error; compare with the MOT mileages on a free MOT check.
  • Gaps between entries. A longer gap than the manufacturer schedule usually means an independent garage did the work, which only appears if that garage uploaded it. Ask for invoices.
  • Nothing before 2008. Earlier services may sit in a paper book or an older system that was never transferred.
  • No records at all. Not the same as no service history — but treat a claimed "full Smart main-dealer history" with no digital entries as a red flag and ask the seller to explain it.
