Service history for dealers: pricing stock, part-exchanges and the £4.99 question
Updated 15 September 2026 · 3 min read · by DealerPricing
Dealers use the manufacturer’s digital service record in three places: before bidding, to avoid paying full-history money for a car without it; at the part-exchange desk, to show the customer exactly why a missing service costs them; and on the advert, where “verified manufacturer service history” with the dates and mileages listed sells the car faster. DealerPricing subscribers run the check from the History tab as part of their plan; one-off checks cost £4.99 by registration.
Step by step
Search the registration on the dashboard
Enter the VRM and, if you know it, the mileage. DealerPricing decodes the exact make, model, variant, engine, gearbox and body style, then pulls every matching live listing.

The dashboard VRM search with registration and optional mileage fields Run the service history check from the History tab
Click Check Service History. The request goes to the manufacturer’s dealer network and usually returns within 10 minutes (up to 48 hours for a few brands). You are notified when it lands and the records and PDF stay against the vehicle. Twenty makes are covered; the make is confirmed first so nothing is spent on an uncovered brand.
Which makes are covered →Price the gap, not the claim
Line the entries up against the manufacturer interval. Every missed or late service is a line on the appraisal sheet: a due major service, a cambelt, brake fluid. On a premium car with a claimed full dealer history and nothing in the digital record, walk away or price as no-history; retail buyers will.
Use it at the part-exchange desk
Show the customer the record on screen. A verified history supports your offer when it is strong; a gap is far easier to explain with the manufacturer’s own data on the table than with “our valuer says”.
Valuing a part-exchange →List it as verified
Put the service dates and mileages in the advert and attach the manufacturer PDF to the deal file. “Verified manufacturer service history” with the entries listed is a stronger line than “FSH”, and it answers the first question every serious buyer asks.

Is the service history check included in my subscription?
Yes. Pro plans include service history checks on the dashboard; the records and PDF are stored against the vehicle for six months. Buyers and traders without a subscription can run the same check for £4.99 by registration at /service-history-check.
How much does missing service history change what I should pay?
Trade guides and retail buyers commonly discount a car with no history by 10–20% against one with full history, more on premium brands where buyers expect a full dealer record. Price in the overdue work too: a due major service or cambelt is a real cost, not a negotiating point.
Will the record show servicing by an independent garage?
For Volkswagen Group brands (Audi, VW, SEAT, Skoda, CUPRA), often yes, because licensed independents write to the same Digital Service Schedule; Mercedes-Benz and smart likewise let registered independents record in the Digital Service Booklet. For most other makes only the franchised network writes to the record, so ask for invoices to cover gaps and match their mileages to the MOT record.
Which makes can I check?
Audi, BMW, Cupra, Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lexus, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, MG, MINI, Nissan, Porsche, Renault, Rolls-Royce, SEAT, Skoda, Smart, Toyota and Volkswagen. Each has its own page explaining that brand’s record and typical interval.
Can I run it on a car before I own it?
Yes. The check works from the registration alone, so you can run it on an auction lot or a customer’s part-exchange before agreeing a price.
