Vehicle history checks

How to check a car’s service history online without a subscription

Updated 15 September 2026 · 3 min read · by DealerPricing

Enter the registration on the DealerPricing service history check, confirm the manufacturer is covered, add your email and pay £4.99. The manufacturer’s dealer network is asked for the vehicle’s digital service records; most come back within 10 minutes, some take up to 48 hours, and the result is emailed to you as a PDF.

Step by step

  1. Open the service history check

Go to the service history check page. You do not need an account; subscribers already have the check included on their dashboard.

    Service history check — £4.99
  2. Enter the registration and click Check Service History

The vehicle is looked up on DVSA and DVLA records to confirm the make. Digital records are available for 20 manufacturers; if the car is not one of them you are told immediately and nothing is charged.

  3. Add your email and pay £4.99

The result and the manufacturer’s PDF are emailed to this address. If you bought a check for the same registration with the same email in the last six months, it is shown again free. The fee is per search and applies whether or not records are found.

  4. Wait for the manufacturer

The request goes straight to the manufacturer’s dealer network. Most results arrive within 10 minutes; a few manufacturers take up to 48 hours. The page shows progress and updates itself, and the email arrives when the records do, so you can close the page.

  5. Compare the records with the seller’s claims

Each entry shows the date, mileage, service type, work done and dealer. Check that the mileages rise steadily, that the intervals match the manufacturer schedule, and that any gaps are covered by invoices from independent garages.

What you’ll see

  • Every service the manufacturer’s dealer network has recorded, with date and mileage
  • The dealer or workshop that did the work
  • The type of service and the work carried out
  • The manufacturer’s own PDF where one is supplied
  • A clear statement when no digital records exist for the car

Frequently asked questions

Which manufacturers are covered?

Audi, BMW, Cupra, Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lexus, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, MG, MINI, Nissan, Porsche, Renault, Rolls-Royce, SEAT, Skoda, Smart, Toyota and Volkswagen. The make is checked before you pay.

Does it work on older cars?

Most manufacturers introduced digital service records around 2012, so cars from 2012 onwards serviced by a franchised dealer give the most complete results. Older cars may have history on an earlier system or a paper book that only appears if the manufacturer transferred it to its digital records.

Why can it take up to 48 hours?

The records are not held by DealerPricing; each request is answered by the manufacturer’s own systems. Most reply within minutes, but some queue requests and respond later. You are emailed as soon as the records arrive.

Am I charged if nothing is found?

Yes. The £4.99 pays for the search of the manufacturer’s records, which is carried out in full whether or not it finds anything. A car serviced outside the dealer network, or with a paper book only, can return no digital records — ask the seller for invoices in that case.

Is this the same as a vehicle history check?

No. A vehicle history check covers stolen, finance, write-off, mileage and keeper markers; the service history check covers maintenance. For a used car purchase run both.

How long can I see the result?

The check is saved for six months. The email carries a link that opens it again at any time, and the manufacturer’s PDF is attached.
