Which Used Cars Sold Fastest in July? Electric Vehicles Lead the Rankings

4 min read

Electric cars topped July's fastest‑selling used‑car list – see the top models, sale times and what it means for dealers.

July’s Fastest‑Selling Used Cars – EVs in the Driver’s Seat

According to Brego’s latest Fast Five analysis, electric vehicles (EVs) occupied four of the five quickest‑selling used‑car derivatives in July. The data highlights how demand for used EVs is outpacing many traditional petrol and diesel models.

Overall Top Five – How Quickly Did They Move?

The Audi Q4 e‑tron 82 kWh Quattro Sport was the outright fastest‑selling used car, changing hands in an average of 10.7 days at a mean retail price of £22,316. The only non‑electric model in the top five was the Volkswagen Polo 1.2 70 S, which required 11.1 days on average to sell.

Behind the Audi, the EV line‑up continued to dominate: the Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor Plus sold in 12.5 days, the Volkswagen ID.4 Life Pro Performance in 12.6 days**, and the Cupra Born V2 in 12.9 days**. All three kept average prices within the typical used‑car market range for their segments.

Three‑Year‑Old Vehicles – Pure EV Competition

When the analysis was narrowed to three‑year‑old stock, every position in the Fast Five was taken by an electric model. Tesla claimed the first two spots: the Model 3 Long Range AWD sold in just 9.9 days** at an average price of £23,685**, while the Model 3 Performance AWD needed 12.7 days**. The remaining three slots were filled by different Polestar 2 derivatives, with sale times ranging from 13.1 to 14.0 days**.

Leapmotor – A Snapshot of Early Momentum

The Chinese brand Leapmotor made a notable impression, although Brego cautioned that pre‑registered stock may have amplified the results. The Leapmotor C10 was the quickest‑selling used EV in July, averaging 7.2 days** at a price of £31,998**. Its sibling, the Leapmotor B10, followed with an average of 9.1 days** and a price of £28,943**.

Both models also topped Brego’s Chinese‑car ranking and led the pre‑registered category, suggesting strong early interest but leaving open the question of sustained demand.

Ten‑Year‑Old Cars – Which Age‑Old Models Still Move Fast?

Looking further back, the fastest‑selling 10‑year‑old used cars were led by the Fiat 500X 1.6 E‑torQ Lounge, which changed hands in an average of 17.7 days**. It was followed by a mix of petrol and diesel models: the BMW 1 Series 118i Sport, Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 ecoFLEX Energy, Ford Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost Titanium and Nissan Qashqai 1.2 DiG‑T N‑Connecta.

Industry Insight

Rupert Pontin, head of insight and communications at Brego, explained: “Electric vehicles are now appearing consistently among the quickest‑selling used cars but the important point is that performance remains highly derivative‑specific.” He added, “The data shows significant variation between models and derivatives. That does not mean every used EV will perform in the same way, which is why broad assumptions around fuel type can be misleading.

On Leapmotor, Pontin noted: “Leapmotor’s position across three of July’s Fast Five categories is an interesting early signal, although its strong showing appears closely linked to pre‑registered activity. That makes it too early to draw firm conclusions about sustained used demand but the speed of sale is still notable.

He also stressed the need for granular analysis: “The July data shows why retailers, lenders and remarketing businesses need to look beyond headline averages. The real commercial picture sits at derivative level. Understanding which specific vehicles are moving quickly, where pricing is creating confidence and how demand differs by age and market position is what supports better stock and valuation decisions.

Methodology Behind the Rankings

Brego’s Fast Five rankings are compiled from whole‑market data, ranking vehicle derivatives by average days to sale. Only derivatives with at least 30 recorded sales** are included, ensuring statistical relevance.
