Will the German agency model delay derail the UK BMW rollout?
BMW confirms the UK agency model launch stays on track for mid‑2027 despite a postponed German rollout.
Overview
BMW has reaffirmed that a fresh postponement to the agency‑sales model in Germany will not disturb its broader European rollout. The manufacturer tells DealerPricing.co.uk that the switch will still begin from mid‑2027, with the UK market remaining on schedule.
German timeline shift
German trade magazine Manager Magazin reported that BMW has pushed back the introduction of the agency model in its home market, now expecting dealers to transition no earlier than 1 July 2028. German BMW dealers were said to have been informed of the revised timetable at the start of August, although BMW has not officially confirmed the new date.
UK rollout remains on schedule
BMW Group UK reiterated to Car Dealer that the wider rollout is still set to start next year, even though a precise launch date for British dealers has not yet been announced. A company spokesman said: “We strongly believe that transitioning to the agency model is the right move for the BMW Group. While we have not yet communicated the exact start date for individual markets, the BMW brand will transition to the agency model in phases from mid‑2027.”

Mini’s agency model as a precedent
The agency model was first applied within the BMW Group to the Mini brand. Mini began the transition in Italy, Poland and Sweden in January 2024, before extending the approach to additional European markets. In the United Kingdom, Mini completed its switch in March 2025. BMW Group UK points to this experience as proof that the model can work for both customers and dealers.
The spokesman added: “Mini successfully introduced the agency sales model in the UK in March 2025 as part of a phased rollout across Europe. This has proven that our model is effective and is designed to benefit customers, our retail partners and the BMW Group.”
What the phased approach means for dealers
BMW first outlined its plan to overhaul the European sales structure in 2023, selecting Mini to lead the transition before extending it to the larger BMW network. The original timetable aimed for the BMW brand to move to agency sales from 2026, following Mini’s rollout. The latest German delay pushes the start for Germany to mid‑2028, but BMW insists that the UK and other markets will still progress from mid‑2027.
This phased method allows the manufacturer to refine processes in each market, reducing disruption for dealers who will continue to handle customer service, finance and after‑sales support while the sales contract is held by the manufacturer.
