Why are used electric cars the fastest‑selling vehicles in June 2026?

3 min read

Discover why used EVs topped June 2026 sales, their quick turnaround times and why prices have stayed flat for dealers.

Electric vehicles were the fastest‑selling used cars in June 2026, according to the latest market data. Both Indicata and Autotrader report that EVs are outpacing petrol, diesel and the broader used‑car market in terms of speed of sale.

Fastest‑selling EVs in June 2026

Indicata’s analysis of UK used‑car valuations identified the Tesla Model 3, Volkswagen ID.5 and Cupra Born as the three quickest sellers for the month. Autotrader’s own data corroborates the trend, noting that six of its top‑ten fastest‑selling models were electric, even though a petrol‑hybrid topped its specific list.

Average time on market by fuel type

Across the platforms, electric cars are changing hands in an average of 25 days. By comparison, petrol models take roughly 29 days, diesel 33 days, and the overall used‑car market sits at about 30 days. This indicates a clear advantage for EVs when it comes to speed of sale.

Used‑EV price stability

Autotrader observed that EV prices were flat year‑on‑year in May 2026 – a 0.0 % change – marking the first time since December 2022 that used‑EV values have not fallen. Indicata adds that, although prices are 11 % lower than they were in January 2024, they have remained steady since July 2025 and have not risen at all in 2026.

  2. Kia Niro (3‑5 years, electric) – 12 days
  3. MG4 (3‑5 years, electric) – 13 days
  4. Polestar 2 (3‑5 years, electric) – 16 days
  5. Volkswagen ID.4 (3‑5 years, electric) – 19 days
  6. Ford Kuga (3‑5 years, plug‑in hybrid) – 19 days

  9. Kia Sportage (3‑5 years, petrol) – 20 days
  10. Renault Arkana (3‑5 years, hybrid) – 20 days

All ten models were aged three to five years, apart from the MG ZS hybrid which fell into the one‑to‑three‑year bracket. Each sold in 20 days or less on average, underscoring the appetite for relatively recent models.

Market supply and demand insights

Indicata calculates a “Market Day’s Supply” figure by dividing the volume of cars available to buy by the average daily sales rate. For used EVs in the UK this stood at **35 days**, the shortest of the 16 countries examined. The platform also noted that used EVs made up just over **10 % of all car sales in June**.

Dean Merritt, Indicata UK’s national retail strategy manager, highlighted that strong demand has thinned stock levels, with many used EVs now being taken in part‑exchange and retailed directly rather than traded between consumers. He added that geopolitical developments, such as the calming of the Middle‑East conflict, could influence future demand as conventional‑fuel prices stabilise.

Industry commentary

Marc Palmer, head of strategy and insights at Autotrader, stressed the importance of the used‑EV market in underpinning the broader electric transition. He pointed out that vehicles in the three‑to‑five‑year “sweet spot” are attracting buyers because they balance choice, value and affordability. Palmer noted that for the first time many key used‑EV metrics are moving in a positive direction.

These trends suggest that, even as the supply of used vehicles rises, consumer confidence in electric cars remains robust, supporting both rapid sales and stable pricing.
