What Makes Cult86 the UK's Fastest-Growing Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ Club?

4 min read

Discover Cult86, the UK club for Toyota GT86, GR86 & Subaru BRZ owners. With over 1000 members and Japfest 2025 plans, find out why this community is booming.

The Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ platform has one of the most dedicated enthusiast followings in the UK, and at the heart of this scene is Cult86. Founded in early 2021, this rapidly expanding community has already confirmed nearly 100 member cars for Japfest 2025 at Silverstone. We spoke with founder Seb to understand what makes this club such a standout success in the world of Japanese car communities.

The Origins of Cult86: From WhatsApp Chat to National Community

Like many great ideas, Cult86 began modestly. "We started off with a small group of us chatting in WhatsApp, just having fun with a silly name," Seb explains. What began as casual conversations between Toyota GT86 owners in early 2021 quickly evolved into something more substantial. By March 2021, the founders decided to create a properly structured community to fill a gap they'd identified in the car scene.

The growth since then has been remarkable. The club now boasts over 1,000 registered members through its website, with approximately 150 more awaiting approval. The main WhatsApp group remains incredibly active with more than 400 participants. "It's great to see new faces joining all the time," Seb shares. "The retention fluctuates as people sometimes move on to other cars, but it's always exciting to see new people getting involved."

While primarily focused on the Toyota GT86, Toyota GR86, and Subaru BRZ, Cult86 maintains a special connection to the iconic AE86 that started it all. "We make an exception for the AE86," Seb confirms. "After all, that car started it all, and it's part of the 86 legacy."

Why Join Cult86? The Benefits of Membership

For owners of these popular Japanese sports cars, joining Cult86 offers far more than just another social media group. The sense of community forms the core of the experience. "It's all about community," Seb emphasises. "If you see another 86 on the road, chances are they're a fellow Cult86 member. We've all got one thing in common, and it's really cool to be able to link up with people."

The organised events represent one of the biggest draws for members. The club regularly arranges substantial convoys to major automotive gatherings. "I can honestly say there's nothing quite like being part of a group of 50+ 86s driving together," Seb describes. "It's a surreal feeling when you look in your rearview mirror and see dozens of other 86s behind you. If you haven't experienced that yet, it's something you've got to do."

Beyond the road trips and meets, Cult86 offers exclusive merchandise that helps strengthen member identity. The custom Cult86 ID plaques have become a signature feature, allowing owners to personalise their vehicles while making it easier to spot fellow members. "It's a fun way to personalise your car," says Seb. "And it makes it easier to spot other members on the road, which is always a nice way to connect with fellow enthusiasts."

Looking Ahead: The Future of Cult86

As Cult86 continues its rapid expansion, maintaining the intimate community atmosphere remains a priority. "The challenge will be keeping that tight-knit vibe as we expand," Seb acknowledges. The club is developing new ways to help members organise local meets and enhance connectivity, particularly through their distinctive ID plaque system.

The immediate focus is firmly on Japfest 2025 at Silverstone on April 13th. "Japfest is our main event of the year," Seb confirms. "It's the one event we recommend to every single member." With nearly 100 cars already confirmed from the club, this promises to be a significant showcase for the 86/BRZ community.

How to Get Involved with Cult86

For Toyota GT86, GR86, Subaru BRZ, or classic AE86 owners interested in joining this vibrant community, the process is straightforward. Prospective members can find Cult86 on Instagram via @cult.86, while the Facebook group operates under @Cult86. The club's website at www.cult86.co.uk provides full membership details.

"We're all about creating a space where people can meet, share their love of 86s, and just have fun," Seb summarises. With Japfest 2025 approaching rapidly, there's never been a better time for UK owners of these celebrated Japanese sports cars to connect with like-minded enthusiasts.

Japfest 2025: Europe's Premier Japanese Car Show
