Road-Legal Nismo GT3 GT-R: The Ultimate Modified Nissan Godzilla

3 min read

Discover the incredible story behind one of the world's few road-legal Nismo GT3 GT-Rs, a US import transformed into a carbon-fibre track monster with 725bhp.

The Ultimate Road-Going Race Car: Nismo GT3 GT-R Breaks Boundaries

When it comes to extreme Nissan GT-R modifications, we've witnessed everything from 3000bhp drag monsters to Liberty Walk wide-body conversions. But Amber Performance's latest creation truly redefines what's possible with a road-legal vehicle. This genuine Nismo GT3-kitted GT-R represents one of only a handful of such road-going examples worldwide, blending race-track DNA with UK road legality in spectacular fashion.

From American Show Car to British Track Weapon

Eagle-eyed enthusiasts will immediately notice this GT-R's left-hand drive configuration, revealing its origins as a US import. While the UK market enjoyed R35 availability until 2022, Jason from Amber Performance specifically sought this American specimen for a very particular reason. The car began life as Seibon's celebrated 2009 SEMA show car, finished in white and representing one of the most iconic modified GT-Rs across the pond.

Jason's existing relationship with Seibon facilitated the purchase when the American team finished with their show vehicle. What seemed like a straightforward project soon encountered unexpected challenges when a workshop fire caused cosmetic damage to the imported GT-R. Fortunately, the mechanical components remained intact, presenting an opportunity for radical transformation rather than simple restoration.

The Quest for Authentic Nismo GT3 Components

Rather than conventional repairs, Jason embarked on an ambitious mission to source genuine Nismo GT3 body components. After encountering difficulties with an overseas supplier who failed to deliver despite payment, the team's persistence eventually paid off. A fortuitous discovery of authentic Nismo GT3 parts within the UK enabled the comprehensive transformation.

The conversion encompasses virtually every exterior panel, including the front bumper with aggressive canards, front wings, side skirts, rear quarter panels, rear bumper, diffuser, front splitter and undertray. At the rear, a modified Rocket Bunny wing with JW Racing chassis support provides the dramatic aerodynamic presence, while the entire body benefits from weight-saving carbon-fibre components from Seibon.

Performance Enhancements and Interior Transformation

Under the bonnet, power has been increased to a substantial 725bhp - a figure Jason deliberately kept "moderate" to maintain authenticity with the GT3 race car's approximately 650hp race trim. The engineering enhancements include hybrid turbo and wastegate setup, Forge blow-off valve, and comprehensive HKS components including an intercooler, hardpipe, blow-off valve kit and EVC 7 boost controller.

The interior continues the carbon-fibre theme with replacement of the rear bench, door trims and various accessories, achieving the perfect balance between race-car minimalism and road-going practicality. The suspension utilises a Bilstein coilover kit that improves handling without compromising comfort, essential for a vehicle that remains fully road legal.

Where to See This Extraordinary GT-R

Jason confirms that Amber Performance considers this project complete, with no further modifications planned. The car will appear at various shows throughout 2024, including the JapFest event at Silverstone circuit on April 19th. For enthusiasts wondering "what is the most extreme road-legal GT-R in the UK?", this Nismo GT3 conversion represents arguably the most authentic track-to-road transformation ever attempted.

This build demonstrates how ambitious modification projects can overcome significant challenges, from international sourcing issues to unexpected setbacks, ultimately resulting in a vehicle that genuinely blurs the line between competition machine and road car. For UK Nissan enthusiasts, it represents a unique opportunity to witness GT-R engineering at its most extreme while remaining fully road legal.
